Facts & Figures In China
China is currently the world's largest coal miner, and it is also the largest consumer of coal in the world. In 2009, North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region reported coal output of 637 million tonnes, 22 million tonnes more than Shanxi province, China's top coal producing region for 30 years, said a statement from the regional administration of coal mine safety. In 2009, Inner Mongolia's coal production increased 37 percent year on year, and it was expected to hit 730 million tonnes in 2010, the statement said. Shanxi saw a decline of 4.7 percent of its coal output year on year in 2009, it said. Inner Mongolia contained the country's largest verified coal reserves of 700 billion tonnes, which more than doubled the number of Shanxi.

| China抯 Jinchuan Group Offers C$150 Mln For Canada's Crowflight |
China's Jinchuan Group has offered C$150 million ($150 million) in cash to acquire Canadian junior nickel miner Crowflight Minerals Inc, reported Tuesday’s Reuters. The deal would see Jinchuan take control of Crowflight's Bucko Lake nickel mine in Manitoba, Crowflight said in a statement. The company said the offer values it at about 26 Canadian cents a share, based on current shares outstanding. This represents a 53 percent premium on the company's closing share price on Monday. The offer is premised on Jinchuan obtaining 100 percent of the output from the Bucko Lake mine and any other Crowflight exploration properties that are subsequently put into production, Crowflight said. The move is the latest of several recent moves by Chinese companies to gain partial or full control of Canadian mining assets to lock in supply of base metals. |
